Before the Eurythmics There Was the Tourists

Before forming Eurythmics and finding international success, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart were members of the British new wave pop band The Tourists. Formed in 1976, they released 3 albums before breaking up in 1980.

The group was formed in London by guitarist Peet Coombes and guitarist Dave Stewart, who had previously been members of the folk rock band Longdancer. They were joined by singer Annie Lennox, who had left the Royal Academy of Music to pursue a career in pop music. Initially named The Catch, the trio released a single titled “Borderline/Black Blood” in 1977, which did not achieve commercial success. They later expanded the lineup to include bassist Eddie Chin and drummer Jim “Do It” Toomey, rebranding themselves as The Tourists.
