About him:
Ansel Adams was born on February 20, 1902, in San Francisco, California, and grew to become one of the most influential photographers in American history. As a young boy, he developed a deep love for nature after visiting Yosemite National Park, where he received his first camera at age fourteen. Although he originally trained to become a pianist, Adams eventually devoted himself fully to photography in the 1920s. His passion for the landscapes of the American West inspired many of his most famous works, and he became known for capturing dramatic black-and-white images of mountains, forests, and national parks with extraordinary sharpness and detail.

Throughout his career, Adams helped transform photography into a respected fine art and became a leader in technical photographic innovation. In 1932, he helped found Group f/64, a photography movement that promoted sharply focused and highly detailed images. He also co-developed the Zone System, a method for controlling photographic exposure and contrast that remains influential today. Beyond his artistic achievements, Adams was a devoted environmentalist who used his photography to support conservation efforts and protect America’s wilderness. He remained active in photography and environmental advocacy until his death on April 22, 1984
