Europe’s outlook is more mixed. Some seasonal projections keep much of western Europe relatively mild on average, yet the same disrupted pattern increases the risk of sharp cold snaps later in December, especially for central and eastern parts of the continent. Experts caution that even if monthly means appear near normal, short intense freezes with snow and ice can still arrive when the jet stream buckles again.

Across Asia, the signal is clearer. The India Meteorological Department expects a colder than usual winter for central and northwest India, with more cold wave days than average as northerly winds pull cooler air deep into the plains. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are forecast to stay below normal in several states, raising concerns for vulnerable communities, agriculture and energy use.

Public agencies are urging residents in all affected regions to monitor local alerts, prepare homes and vehicles for prolonged cold and take health warnings seriously. In extreme wind chill, frostbite and hypothermia can develop quickly, especially among outdoor workers, older people and those without reliable heating.
