Indus Towers Improves Hygiene Infrastructure for Girls Across Government Schools in Meghalaya

Indus Towers, one of India’s largest telecom infrastructure companies, under its flagship CSR initiative Pragati, inaugurated girls’ washroom facilities across 11 government schools in the Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya, strengthening sanitation infrastructure and supporting a healthier learning environment for students.

The inauguration ceremony was held at Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School and was attended by Mr Andrew L Myrthong, BDO, Umsning C&RD Block and i/c Assistant Commissioner, Ri Bhoi. The event was also live cast to six additional schools where similar facilities have been developed as part of the initiative.

The project aims to address the lack of proper sanitation infrastructure in many schools, a challenge that often affects the comfort, safety, and attendance of girl students. By providing dedicated and hygienic washroom facilities, the initiative seeks to create a more supportive environment where girls can continue their education with dignity and confidence.

Speaking at the event, Shri Myrthong highlighted the importance of strengthening basic infrastructure within the education system. He noted that providing proper sanitation facilities in schools is an important step toward ensuring that students, especially young girls, have a safe and comfortable environment for learning. He also appreciated the contribution made by Indus Towers and its partners in supporting schools across the region.

Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO NESA at Indus Towers Ltd, emphasized the company’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure through its CSR initiatives. He said that access to safe and hygienic sanitation facilities plays an important role in supporting the dignity, health, and confidence of young girls. Through the Pragati initiative, Indus Towers continues to work toward addressing infrastructure gaps that can affect education and wellbeing in underserved communities.

The project has been implemented by NEAID, the Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development, which has been working closely with local schools and community stakeholders to ensure the development and proper use of improved sanitation facilities. The organization has played a key role in coordinating with educational institutions and supporting the implementation of the project on the ground.

Indus Towers has been actively working with community partners across India to improve access to essential infrastructure and services. Initiatives such as this reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to support community development and promote inclusive growth through sustainable corporate social responsibility programs.
